Pumba Private Game Reserve

Awake to the sounds of the African bush veld as the sun makes its appearance on the horizon bringing with it the prospect of another perfect day. Eco friendly Pumba, a proud member of the Green Leaf Conservation Initiative, is set in the malaria-free Eastern Cape and provides an intimate African safari experience never to be forgotten.

The reserve is home to Africa’s Big Five as well as rare white lion, hippo, hyena, cheetah, giraffes, various antelope and more than 300 bird species. Feel the heartbeat of nature as you explore the reserve in custom landrovers or on guided walking safaris.

Water Lodgeoffers waterfront chalets overlooking Lake Cariega whileBush Lodgeis set on a floodplain with scenic mountain views offering luxury thatch and glass chalets. All Chalets open onto private game viewing decks boasting plunge pools and outdoor showers. The indulgent bathrooms offer free-standing tubs and double basins, and each room is fitted with an earthenware fireplace. WATER LODGE

Pumba Accommodation (expanded)5 Star Water Lodge, set amongst dense bushveld overlooking Lake Kariega, offers 12 stone walled, thatched chalets leading off into meandering timber footpaths. All Chalets open onto private game viewing decks boasting plunge pools and outdoor showers. The indulgent bathrooms offer free-standing tubs and double basins, and each room is fitted with an earthenware fireplace.

Impala Chalet: All 8 standard Impala Chalets and each room has a game viewing deck, plunge pool and outdoor shower where guests can relax in ultimate privacy.

Gemsbok Chalet: All 3 superior chalets are spacious and individually decorated and include a lounge area recessed from the bedroom with generous built-in daybed ideal for curling up with a good book whilst listening to the calls of Africa.

Kudu Suite: This stylish 2 bedroom chalet has a lounge area separating the 2 bedrooms. The second bedroom has its own private bathroom and shower area. A wraparound deck with private plunge pool and steam room below complete this picture of ultimate luxury.

MSENGE BUSH LODGE

Pumba Accommodation (expanded)5 star Bush Lodge allows you to feel one with nature in your own private glass enclosed chalet, as you watch the South African sun bid you goodnight over the distant hills. Complete relaxation is yours as you gaze out from your wooden deck, cool down in your private plunge pool or take a refreshing evening shower surrounded by the African bushveld. Unrivalled cuisine or a traditional African braai in a bush boma under the starlit sky will provide a sumptuous close to each day.

Msenge Chalets: 11 Glass and bush enclosed chalets which flow naturally into the African bushveld allowing you to become one with nature. Four poster beds complete with dreamy white mosquito nets and en-suite bathrooms allow you to become one with nature in the lap of luxury. Gauze and sliding glass doors open up onto a private plunge pool, game viewing deck and outdoor shower overlooking breathtaking views of the Zuurberg Mountains.

Chalet 9 (Family Chalet): This luxurious chalet has two private bedrooms with a shared entrance and offers families the opportunity to experience the wonders of Africa under one roof.

Big 5 Safari Drives

Pumba carefully selects their rangers to ensure you can get the most out of all your game drives. We have many different species of animals roaming our plains, ranging from our big predators such as Lions, Cheetahs, Buffalo, Leopards and Rhinos. We also have various types of buck and grazers. While our Big 5 are the main highlight, our land boasts an array of various fauna and flora. If you look carefully you can see horns/antlers that animals have left. We have morning, afternoon and specially arranged evening game drives.

Birding Safari’s

South Africa is home to many different species of birds, many being found in the Eastern Cape. Bird lovers can arrange a special bird safari- where they take a journey through the Afromontane Forest. Using modern technology our Rangers are able to track and call birds closer for you to view.

Gym

For the fitness conscious  Msenge Bush Lodgehas a well-equipped fitness centre. The gym is fully enclosed by class and is well air-conditioned.

The steam room, spa and plunge pool will provide you with the perfect end to a workout.

Bass Fishing

For the ultimate in serenity and relaxation enjoy a day of bass fishing on the gorgeous Lake Cariega. We will provide you with everything you need, including fishing rods, lures and tackles. This makes for an ideal family outing culminated with picnic baskets or sundowners at the end of the day.

Archery

Archery is an ancient sport that will test your aim, fitness and skill. At the archery range, you will be briefed and given a demonstration – and then you will get the opportunity to try it for yourself. Buttresses are placed at specific distances, making your task both challenging and interesting.

Guided Bush Walks

Explore our beautiful landscape on foot. Our qualified rangers will plan a specific route according to the fauna and flora in which you and your partner, or group, are most interested. Walk through the reserve accompanied by the majestic silence of the African Bushveld.

Star Gazing

Africa is known for its high, open skies. These are even more magical when out in the South African bushveld, where the stars and moon are the only sources of light. Our field guides will interpret and reveal the wonders of the South Celestial Skies.

Kids on Safari

Guest safety is an important factor we take into account. On game drives we are in  animal territory, therefore strict rules must apply. The vehicles are open along the sides and at times be quite bumpy.As a result put in place rules regarding children under the age of 6.

  • For their own safety, children under the age of 6 years are not permitted to go on normal big 5 game drives.
  • Special game drives can be arranged for families with children younger than 6 years. There is a surcharge of R750.00 for a private game drive vehicle, subject to availability.
  • However, should other families be staying at the reserve we will do our best to group them on a vehicle at no additional cost. (Min of 6 people)
  • Children under 6 years by prior arrangement.
  • For their own safety, children under the age of 6 years are not permitted to go on normal big 5 game drives.
  • Special game drives can be arranged for families with children younger than 6 years. There is a surcharge of R750.00 for a private game drive vehicle, subject to availability.
  • However, should other families be staying at the reserve we will do our best to group them on a vehicle at no additional cost. (Min of 6 people)
  • Babysitting facilities are available by prior arrangement at a cost of R75 per hour.
  • When sharing with two full paying adults, children under the age of 3 years are accommodated complimentary in either a cot or a stretcher bed.
  • When sharing with two full paying adults, children over the age of 3 years are charged the applicable child/ 3rd person sharing rate.

We do however want our little rangers to have a “wild” time! 

Kids on Safari

  • Kids one hour game drive after breakfast, with species book.
  • Identification of plants and insects around Msenge within the perimeter of the fence.
  • Make a plaster cast of findings, each child will be given an insect box to collect findings.
  • How to make a fire in the boma including roasting some marshmallows and storytelling.

Conferencing at Pumba Private Game Reserve

Water Lodge

Perched alongside the Cariega River, the Pumba Water Lodge Conference Centre combines an intimate venue with excellent facilities and gorgeous surroundings that are sure to inspire to make any event successful. This venue can accommodate up to 20 delegates and boasts IT support if necessary, as well as a private business office in which delegates can work privately.

Delegates are able to enjoy excellent gourmet meals, which are best savoured while watching the hippos in the lake or the antelope grazing.Accommodation is also available for 24 delegates sharing luxury chalets, each equipped with private plunge pools and outdoor showers.

Bush Lodge

The Msenge Bush Lodge Conference Room has a capacity of 60 delegates and is characterised by its distinct African decor coupled with top-notch technology. Additionally it is the perfect venue for teambuilding and special occasions.We also offer an authentic African boma (traditional meeting place) in which certain team building tasks can be done as well as a great dining area.

The latest technology and IT support means that delegates are always assured of the highest standards of communication.

This lodge also boasts a spa and gym, as well as accommodation for up to 22 delegates sharing luxury chalets, each with their own private plunge pool.
